Hi Shawn..and welcome... A couple of points come to mind....first...and foremost...Solo tripping is amazing brother...dont give up on it ....Its still my preffered way to enjoy the back country....however...Outdoor Adventure Canada http://www.outdooradventurecanada.com/forum/ is a great starting point for group trips to join and also My Canadian Canoe Routes http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum . Algonquin is beautiful...but there are other parks closer that you may want to try...The Massassauga Provincial Park is georgeous to spend time in the bush, especially alone, The Kawartha's highland Signature Site is on my To Do list and looks wonderful! Drop into the forums I mentioned and ask more questions there!

Hi Kirk. Ive been canoeing for a few year now with friends and a few times solo... but its getting hard to find people to go with... Ive been to Algonquin mostly and would not mind heading out anywhere in Ontario. I will be 27 this season and most of my friends are not "woods men" lol .... I was wondering if you know of any places on the web that organize group events "back country trips"? Or any forums for people like me looking to meet new people to trip with?

Your welcome Donald..... The Arkona and Rock G;en area is a real treasure at any time of the year but especially early spring and late fall..... check out the trilobyte shale formations at Craigleith Provincial Park when you get a chance as well http://soto.on.ca/provincial_parks/craigleith_pp.html . Good luck on your adventures and hope to see ya out there some time.

Hi- I stumbled across your site while searching for places to look for fossils. I just love it and have realized how I never spend as much time as I want in the wilderness amongst nature. It has always been my passion but with work and 'life' demands, it just doesn't happen enough! I guess I need to get my priorities straight. Thank you so much for inspiring me ;)

hey Al..... Take a trip over to www.solotripping.com ....I got a lot of great advice from folks over there. And thats a lot of the reason I go alone, a lack of canoe partners during the shoulder seasons when its most convenient for me to get out. Good Luck and happy paddling!

Dear Kirk,
I just linked over to your website from Northwest Woodsman. I enjoyed reading your list of your gear for a solo trip. I'm getting older, and my buddies are dropping out on me; so I may be solo tripping next season. Keep up the good work; and have a Merry Christmas.

It's nice that you keep up this website for folks who share an interest you have in common.

Hey Rich....any canoe that gets you out there is a good solo canoe. My preference is a boat of 15 feet...easiest to handle solo for me.....Prospector style and preferably kevlar layup so the weight wont kick ya when portaging it! If ya want drop me an email!

Hello. First time visitor here. I'm a Viet NamVet and have always wanted to get out and "Canoe" and do overnights. I am an experienced camper, bushcrafter, and outdoors enthusiest. I would like a reccomendation on a "solo" canoe for me.
Thank you and wish you the best.
